OUR STORY

West-African Beginnings

Originally from Accra, Ghana, our family relocated to the United States in 1997 after winning the Diversity Visa Lottery Program.  My Mom & Grandma brought a variety of delicious cultural family recipes, full of yummy West-African delicacies that shaped my childhood.  One of these delicacies which quickly became a household favorite, was an irresistible snack my Grandma made.  "Flour Chips", also known as Chin Chin, are West African homemade mini-cookies traditionally served on special occasions. Today, Chin Chin has become an everyday-snack & street delicacy sold in West Africa.

Grandma Joana

Growing up, I always believed my Grandma's Chin Chin was truly special.  Every chance I had, I shared it with friends, college roommates, business associates and even strangers... and no one could resist just having one!  It brought Grandma so much joy spreading happiness & love through her Chin Chin, while sharing a piece of our cultural heritage.  Sadly, on May 2nd, 2015, Grandma suffered a stroke that tested my family's faith, hope and fortitude.  Grandma had always been the rock of the family, an unrelenting pillar of support for both Mom and me.

We were not ready to say goodbye.

JOOKIES Is Born

Through prayer & a wonderful medical staff, Grandma made a full recovery and is alive and well today! Although this experience was traumatizing, it taught me one important lesson; we never truly die, for we live through the people we've touched, lives we've changed, and knowledge we've passed down. I decided to build a company in honor of my Grandma Joana that incorporated her amazing Chin Chin recipe now known as "Jookies", and embodied her warm hospitality & unbiased kindness; all while spreading our West-African culture.
